Only thirty minutes from the heart of Rome, this vast well-preserved site is immersed in the green fields and pine forests of the Roman coast. As important a site as its more famous cousin Pompeii, this once busy port offers a rare glimpse into the economic and social heart of the Roman Empire.
Ostia Antica In-Depth For this tour your guide will meet you at your hotel and accompany you to the train station by taxi where you will catch the train to Ostia Antica (30 minutes). Your guide will use this time on the train to explain the history of the site. Once arrived you begin your explorations of the ruins including: The firemen's barracks, the baths of the cart drivers, the shops, the Greek-style theater, a bakery, a laundromat, a restaurant, multi-level apartments, the one of a kind town center with its merchants' square, temples to a pantheon of gods and goddesses, the forum and the beautiful Imperial baths. Along the way you can admire beautiful mosaic floors, statues, and frescoes. The full day tour allows us time to make a detailed visit to the museum, containing original finds from the site including statues, sarcophagi, and frescoes. You will also enjoy a nice break at the on-site restaurant, and continue after lunch to further explore the ruins and the many secrets they hold. **Ostia Antica: 5 Euros per person; Train fare: 2 Euros per person round trip. Your guide will meet you at your hotel. From there you can take a taxi to the train station. Your guide will accompany you to the site on the train, provide the detailed tour of the site and accompany you back to Rome.
